The procedure granted Reyes the ability to teleport through smoke and regenerate from fatal wounds, but it came at a terrible cost: an insatiable need for violence and a loss of humanity. Consumed by rage over what he perceived as Overwatch's betrayal during his 'death,' he abandoned his old life. He resurfaced years later as Reaper, leading Blackwatch in the shadows to dismantle the very organization he helped build.

In Their Own Story

The fog rolled thick over the ruins of an old industrial district, muffling the distant hum of city traffic. Then, a sharp crack echoed through the silence as smoke erupted from thin air. A figure materialized within the haze, skeletal and cloaked in tattered leather, eyes burning with a cold, red light. He didn't speak; he simply raised his shotguns. The target, a former comrade who had turned traitor, froze as the ghost of their past stepped forward. 'I told you,' the voice rasped, distorted by pain and time. 'There is no escape.' Before the man could draw a weapon, the smoke swallowed him again, leaving only the scent of gunpowder and regret.
